What does it mean that operations are infrastructure not busywork?

Maintaining your operational systems is as important as the visible work they support.

Example: You spend Sunday evening reviewing your weekly plan, updating your task system, and prepping your calendar — and feel guilty about not doing "real work." But Monday through Friday you execute without friction, ship three deliverables, and never lose a commitment. Your colleague, who skipped all operational maintenance to "just do the work," spends Monday rebuilding a lost to-do list, Wednesday apologizing for a missed deadline, and Friday in triage mode. Your invisible Sunday session was the infrastructure that made the visible week possible.

Try this: List every recurring operational activity you perform — weekly reviews, inbox processing, system updates, filing, calendar management, tool maintenance, backup routines. Next to each, write whether you currently frame it as "busywork" or "infrastructure." For every item you labeled busywork, write one sentence describing what would break if you stopped doing it for a month. Rewrite the label.
