Principlev1
Monitor multiple dimensions of effectiveness simultaneously
Monitor multiple dimensions of effectiveness simultaneously to prevent metric gaming — single metrics become corrupted when they become targets.
Why This Is a Principle
This derives from When a measure becomes a target, it ceases to be a good (Goodhart's Law — measures become corrupted as targets) combined with Automatic Narrative Generation Precedes Conscious Evaluation (automatic narrative generation) and Perception as Predictive Construction (perception is predictive construction). The principle prescribes measurement system design to prevent the corruption that follows from making any single metric a target. It's actionable (use multiple metrics) and general (applies to any measurement system).
