The 60-second values check captures a daily data point — one sentence describing what today's actual behavior reveals about what you truly value — without the analysis overhead that makes daily journaling unsustainable.
The "without elaboration or judgment" constraint is essential. Elaboration converts the observation into a narrative that rationalizes the day. Judgment converts it into self-criticism that distorts the data. The goal is raw observation: "Today I spent 4 hours on client work I don't care about and 30 minutes on the project that lights me up." That's the data point. No story about why, no judgment about whether it's acceptable.
After seven days, the accumulated one-sentence observations reveal your operational value system — not what you say you value but what your behavior, repeated across a week of diverse conditions, actually prioritized.
