Why This Is a Principle
This principle follows from Between every event and every emotional response is a (appraisal interprets meaning) and Negative events carry greater psychological weight than (negative events carry greater weight). It provides prescriptive boundaries for when temporal distancing is appropriate regulation versus when it becomes denial.
